Boxing has made me a Rocky star says Dua Lipa
SHE is already boxing clever in the charts, but now Dua Lipa has revealed she regularly steps into the ring to offset the stresses of pop fame.
The One Kiss singer likes to lace up her boxing gloves to burn off calories. ‘I like that it’s definitely a full-body workout,’ she said of being fighting fit. ‘Since starting boxing I’ve probably been in the best shape ever. It’s also a great stress reliever.’
Confirming she hopes to deliver her second album next year, Dua says her new fitness regime counteracts ‘naughty treats’ such as her favourite, doughnuts, which ‘usually put me in a food coma’.
But she admits she is not naturally a sporty spice. ‘I would always be that person who makes a new year’s resolution, gets a gym membership, shows up twice in the first week of January and then never goes again,’ admitted the pop babe, busy modelling the Statement Collection of sports bras for adidas.
‘Now I love workout classes or working with a trainer. I feel like I’m pretty useless on my own, so I prefer being around other people working out with me.’
Meanwhile the 23-year-old Brit, from an Albanian family, can’t wait for the ‘therapeutic’ experience of penning a follow-up to her self-titled debut album this year. ‘I’d like to finish my next album and start releasing new music,’ she said. ‘I’m really excited for starting a whole new chapter in my career. I think the next year is a lot about the next album.’
After scoring two chart-toppers already, Dua has vowed to push herself. ‘I try to do things that scare me or that I think I couldn’t necessarily pull off,’ she said. But she is still pinching herself at her success so far. ‘I get to do everything I’d imagined and more, things I didn’t even know would be possible like performing at the Uefa Champions League,’ Dua admitted. ‘I never thought I’d see myself in front of loads of football fans.’
