Cheryl: My TV return was a happy accident!

CHERYL insists her comeback on the box was accidental and ‘not about me being on TV’.
The former X Factor judge has been entertaining audiences with her moves as a judge on Simon Cowell’s BBC1 reality show The Greatest Dancer — but she has revealed she only got the job after filling in.
‘I actually didn’t plan to be on the show originally,’ the 35-year-old singer told Guilty Pleasures.
‘I did the pilot for a friend of mine who was like, “Do you want to come down and do the pilot? We have a great format for a dance show”.’
The work was right up her street. ‘I have always spoken to Simon about doing a dance show and was like, “Of course! I’d love to see what’s going on”,’ she added.
‘So I did the pilot, didn’t really think about it, was doing music in between and then she called and said, “Would you like to do the show? We’ve commissioned it”. It was exciting!’
The Love Made Me Do It singer has been off the radar since giving birth to son Bear almost two years ago and insists starring on the box is not about maintaining her stardom.
‘For me, it is not about me being on TV,’ she said. ‘That’s not how I view it.
‘It’s about enjoying the experience. I love that process. I love watching people. I’m like a viewer, like anyone else watching. I’m just in the best seat in the house.’
As for having her dance credentials scrutinised, Chez says it enters all parts of her life — including her workouts.
‘I always use dance as my cardio, because I don’t like the treadmill. I hate running. I always have one knee that causes [me] aggravation. I use dance instead. It’s just there, sometimes I feel like I have to do it. It’s just an urge,’ she added.
‘I don’t really know my life without dance. It’s such a huge part of who I am. It’s been a massive part of my career. I’m sure you’ve been to a Girls Aloud tour and seen how much we used to dance. It’s been full on since I was three years old.’
The Greatest Dancer airs on Saturdays at 7.35pm on BBC1.
