Claire Foy tells of her shock when she discovered Crown’s ‘dirty secret’
CLAIRE FOY has described the inequality of her pay on The Crown as ‘a big, fat, dirty secret’.
The actress said she was ‘deeply hurt’ when it emerged she earned £10,000 less per episode than co-star Matt Smith.
Foy, 34, who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing the Queen in the Netflix drama, told Net-A-Porter: ‘I was deeply hurt by it, because I’d been working on that show for two years. I loved everybody on it. And then I realised, there’s been a big, fat, dirty secret that nobody’s ever talked about.’
She added that if she hadn’t become ‘an inadvertent spokesperson’ for inequality she would have been ‘cheating myself and all the other women I know’.
