Dan Gillespie Sells has a Hollywood dream
DAN GILLESPIE SELLS, of The Feeling, has high hopes he’ll take musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie to Hollywood.
The singer has confirmed negotiations are under way for a film adaptation of the West End smash, for which he wrote the score. He told Guilty Pleasures: ‘There is lots of exciting talk about that. I think it would make a lovely movie.’
The acclaimed show, inspired by the true story of a 16-year-old boy from Sheffield who wanted to go to his school prom in a dress, is wowing audiences at London’s Apollo theatre.
And a move across the pond for a spot on Broadway isn’t out of the question, teased Dan. ‘It has found its audience and people have fallen in love with it,’ he said. ‘It’s an exciting couple of years ahead.’
But has the Never Be Lonely chart-topper ever dragged up?
‘I have. I’m quite fierce when I drag up — as in terrifying,’ laughed the 39-year-old, whose mother’s female partner helped bring him up.
He added: ‘I grew up around drag queens because of my gay parents. Funnily enough I never did it when I was young, only recently, working on Jamie.’
Busy Dan hasn’t forgotten about his band and will soon reunite with guitarist Kevin Jeremiah, keyboardist Ciaran Jeremiah, drummer Paul Stewart and bassist Richard Jones. They last released a song in 2016 but new material is on its way and they’ll start a UK tour in October.
Tickets go on sale Friday at http://gigst.rs/Feeling. If you can’t wait till then, the lads support Michael Bublé at British Summertime Hyde Park on July 13.
