Divide and rule… Ed smashes records with his third album
THERE’S nothing divisive about Ed Sheeran’s new album — it has smashed a string of records on Spotify.
Ed’s biggest triumph was beating The Weeknd with his third studio LP, Divide. It was streamed 56,727,861 times on its first day of release, almost doubling the previous record set by The Weeknd, who racked up 29million with his effort Starboy.
This comes after news that 26-year-old Ed’s Divide is on course to become the fastest-selling since Adele’s 25 in 2015. He shifted 232,000 copies in physical sales in the first 24 hours of it dropping on Friday, more than his second album, x, sold in its first week. Now that’s what you call sum-thing special…
