Editors ‘fell apart’ when Chris Urbanowicz left

EDITORS’ Tom Smith says the band ‘completely fell apart’ when their lead guitarist Chris Urbanowicz jumped ship.
And the frontman confessed he still hasn’t buried the hatchet with his former bandmate, who walked in 2012.
‘It wasn’t fistfights, that’s not the type of band we are, but we’re not in contact, no, and it wasn’t amicable, it wasn’t a good time,’ Tom exclusively told Guilty Pleasures.
The Munich singer admits he was tempted to throw in the towel when Urbanowicz called it quits after almost ten years with the outfit.
‘It took a good year or so to completely fall apart,’ he explained. ‘To make the decision to move on without Chris, we were confronted with the idea or the very real possibility… that it was going to be the end of us.’
But the band, which now consists of bassist Russell Leetch, drummer Ed Lay, guitarist Justin Lockey and keyboardist Elliott Williams, weathered the storm.
Tom, 36, explained: ‘It has taken a couple of records for this new version of the band to feel comfortable in our skin.
‘It was weird for us but you just have to crack on. We’re finding ways of saying things that feel as vital and fresh as we ever did.’
Editors release their sixth album, Violence, on March 9.
