Guilty Pleasures: When Calvin Harris met Ainsley Harriott

CALVIN HARRIS says his old shelf-stacking job at Marks & Spencer prepared him for his future showbiz lifestyle of unsocial hours and meeting his heroes.
The superstar DJ is the man they all want to work with these days… but he says some of the best years were in the food section at M&S in London’s Clapham South, where he met his favourite TV chef Ainsley Harriott.
‘That was good, an amazing job,’ recalled Calvin, 34, yesterday. ‘It taught me how to get up at 3.30am.
‘The highlight of my entire M&S Clapham South career was serving Ainsley Harriott at the peak of his Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook show.
‘I mean, we’re talking 15 years ago and he was an absolute legend then — still a legend.’
The Promises star was appearing on Capital FM’s Official Big Top 40 show to introduce his latest collaboration, Giant, with Rag’N’Bone Man.
And, after his experience of stacking sausage rolls, Calvin waded in to the hottest debate of 2019… the launch of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll.
The fitness freak explained why he won’t be tasting the controversial pastry. ‘I don’t think I would, no,’ he said. ‘I’m not a vegan…’
But it’s also because, as a model for Emporio Armani underwear, Calvin has a six-pack to maintain. ‘I loved Greggs’ pasties, drank whisky and did all that kind of stuff, [but] those days are behind me, do you know what I mean?
‘Cos I’m a bit older now, you know, and you can’t eat pasties every day when you’re in your 30s.’
Besides, the Scot thinks sausage rolls in general are overrated.
‘Honestly, I don’t see the need for a sausage roll, vegan or otherwise,’ he finished. ‘Let’s put it that way. I don’t see the need. Just have a sausage!’
