Hugh Grant: Robert Downey Jr hated me

HUGH GRANT has revealed how Robert Downey Jr ‘hated’ him on sight when they first met 20 years ago.
The actors worked together on the 1995 film Restoration, which also starred Meg Ryan, Sam Neill and Ian McKellen.
But the Paddington 2 star has now spoken out about how ‘hurt’ he was by Downey’s seeming dislike for him.
Speaking to People magazine, Hugh said: ‘[He] hated me. We did a thing called Restoration, and he took one look at me and wanted to kill me.
‘I don’t know. I was so hurt.’

But there is a potentially happy ending to this story as the Avengers actor got wind of Grant’s words and offered an olive branch.
Taking to Twitter, he did not deny Hugh’s account of his hostility but said ‘a lot has happened over two decades!’
Referring to Grant’s campaigning work in calling out media phone hacking, Downey added: ‘I respect how Mr Grant has matured as an artist & voice against violations of privacy.
‘Let’s break bread together soon @HackedOffHugh! #burythehatchet2018.’
Being the genial gent that he is, Hugh appeared to bear no ill will and promptly invited him round for lunch — though it sounds like Robert may find that hard to swallow…
‘Thanks, @RobertDowneyJr ,’ Hugh wrote. ‘Nice way to kick off the year. And yes — if you’re in London come by and break bread.
‘Won’t be easy as my 5 year old bakes it, but you seem strong. Respect. #burythehatchet2018.’
