Jesus Christ still a Superstar in TV ratings

US TELLY execs didn’t have a cross to bear when Jesus Christ Superstar sparked a huge rise in their ratings.
The NBC network pulled in 9.4million viewers for the live perfomance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical — beating the American Idol reboot, now featuring Katy Perry as a judge.
Singer John Legend (pictured), 39, played Jesus, pop star Sara Bareilles, 38, portrayed Mary Magdalene but rocker Alice Cooper, 70, stole the show as King Herod.
Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s rock opera, which follows Christ’s last week, opened in 1971.
