Joaquin Phoenix steps out with new love Rooney Mara

JOAQUIN PHOENIX found a real-life support act at the Cannes Film Festival when he stepped out in public for the first time with his new love, actress Rooney Mara.
The 42-year-old American actor was joined by The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo actress after being named best actor for his role in You Were Never Really Here. Phoenix, who was holding hands with 32-year-old Mara in the audience, turned to her in disbelief and asked: ‘Do I have to go up there?’

The pair, who met while filming Mary Magdalene last year, were still holding hands as they left the ceremony and then jumped into the back of a car together.
As the 70th festival drew to a close on the French Riviera on Sunday, British filmmaker Lynne Ramsay was named the joint winner of best screenplay for You Were Never Really Here.

The film, a thriller about a war veteran’s efforts to save a young girl from a sex trafficking ring, also stars Ekaterina Samsonov and Alessandro Nivola.
The screenplay prize was shared with Yorgis Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou for their thriller The Killing Of A Sacred Deer.
