Mark Hamill reveals how to become an icon at GQ Awards

STAR WARS’ Mark Hamill couldn’t resist sharing how you too could become a legend in your own lifetime — as he stepped up to accept his icon prize at the GQ Men of the Year Awards last night.
Collecting his gong from his Force Awakens co-star Simon Pegg, he explained that world domination is ‘really rather simple’.
‘Step one, blow up a Death Star. You will gain the good will and deep gratitude of untold millions and it will last a lifetime,’ he told the roomful of celebs.
‘Once you’ve established yourself as an icon of virtue and heroism like Luke, go for the Joker, an icon of villainy and depravity.

‘And of course if you’ve accomplished those two steps, the third is pretty easy… Get your likeness on a mountain of merchandise, become a Pez dispenser, a pair of underoos, an electric toothbrush, a sleeping bag.’
Despite his Joker-ish demeanour, however, Hamill did express gratitude for the award.
‘I really can’t believe it,’ he said. ‘As facetious as I can be, I’m sincerely grateful for this recognition.’
He also promised his role in the forthcoming Star Wars film would be substantial.
‘Don’t worry, in The Last Jedi, I promise you, my part will be twice as big,’ he said.
The Last Jedi is due for UK release on December 15
