Paul McCartney: Kanye West ‘doesn’t write songs’

PAUL MCCARTNEY has offered an intriguing insight into how Kanye West makes music — and basically it’s all a lot of ‘noodling’.
Macca worked with the rap star on three tracks, including Rihanna’s FourFiveSeconds, but he admits he was a bit worried about the collaboration.
‘I was a little bit nervous at first because I thought it could go horribly wrong,’ Sir Paul told comedian Tim Minchin during a Facebook Live chat.
It turned out Kanye did have a pretty unique way of working.
‘It was a very intriguing process,’ Macca explained. ‘You basically don’t write songs. You just talk and noodle a bit and you record it all on your phone, and then he goes away. And that’s basically his record.’
So unusual was the experience, Sir Paul wasn’t even sure they’d laid down a track — and even three months later, when he was sent the Rihanna song, he still wasn’t sure.
‘I have to ring him up and ask, “Am I on this?!”‘ Macca said.
To which Kanye replied: ‘Oh, yeah — you’re the guitar player! We sped it up.’
