Piers Morgan tries to dodge a dust-up with Danny Dyer

PIERS MORGAN has been backtracking on his famously anti-Love Island stance since realising he’ll come face to face with the hard-man dad of one of its contestants.
The outspoken TV presenter is due to interview Danny Dyer in a special late-night edition of Good Morning Britain along with co-host Susanna Reid — which could be awkward as Danny’s daughter Dani is currently taking part in the ITV show that he has described as full of ‘halfwits’.
Today Piers admitted that he feared Danny — known for his tough-guy roles — would ‘probably punch me at some stage’ during the show, which airs tonight after England’s World Cup match against Belgium.

And it appears he’s already been doing some damage control, describing Danny’s daughter as ‘an oasis of intelligence, beauty and charm in an ocean of dimwittery’.
He added wryly: ‘That’s got nothing to do with Danny Dyer coming on the show live tomorrow night for Good Evening Britain.
‘I want to denounce any comments I’ve made about them being a bunch of brain-dead zombies.’

And just to make sure there’s no fisticuffs, he made a direct appeal to ‘Danny senior’.
‘If you’re watching, nothing I’ve said about the show or its inhabitants has anything to do with your daughter, who is a ray of sunshine in a sea of stupidity,’ he said.

Piers’ and Susanna’s show will gauge ‘the thoughts of the nation’ after the match, as well as exploring other news and celeb stories of the day.
But elsewhere on the show, Piers couldn’t rein in his anti-Love Island feelings, asking contestant Rosie Williams why she had ‘given up’ her law career to ‘go into a villa full of halfwits’ and asking what her parents thought of the decision.
Rosie defended herself, saying: ‘My family are very proud of me. I don’t think I made myself look stupid on TV.

‘I was working 18 days in a law firm — it’s not as glamorous as it seems.
‘This once in a lifetime opportunity came up and it seemed like the best thing for me.’
Good Evening Britain will air on ITV at 9.15pm
