Rob Lowe takes on the unlikely role of a cop in Boston… Lincolnshire

US STAR Rob Lowe is set to join the cast of a gritty northern cop show.
The incongruous casting sees The West Wing star team up with former Coronation Street actress Angela Griffin and Line Of Duty actor Tony Pitts in the ITV show that’s set in East Lincolnshire.
But don’t worry, Lowe — who was part of the 1980s US ‘Brat Pack’ that included Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson and Andrew McCarthy, among others — won’t be mangling the dialect because he’s playing high-flying US cop Bill Hixon, who is, somewhat bizarrely, drafted in to be chief constable of the northern region.
The show nods to Rob’s US roots with its title Wild Bill and sees him arrive with teen daughter Kelsey as they hope to flee their painful past…
The show also stars Dectorists’ Rachael Stirling as Lady Mary Harborough and Bodyguard’s Nadia actress Anjli Mohindra — this time on the other side of the law, as Bill’s deputy.
Griffin will play local journalist Lisa Cranston while Pitts will play crime commissioner Keith Metcalfe.
Lowe also executive produces the series, which looks set to feature some classic fish out of water stuff, with Hixon question everything about himself as he comes up against the unfamiliar, unimpressed community.
Filming on the series has begun in the UK and pictures have already emerged of Lowe biffing about Boston, Lincolnshire, togged up as a British Bobby while proffering a tray of, we assume, Lincolnshire’s finest sausages.
