Susanna Reid and Lorraine Kelly sock it to Piers Morgan

PIERS MORGAN got short shrift from Susanna Reid, Charlotte Hawkins and Lorraine Kelly today when he set off a battle of the sexes — over socks.
The Good Morning Britain host riled up Reid by suggesting one of the reasons she remains single is because she refuses to pick up potential partners’ footwear from the floor and pop it in the laundry.
The controversy — quickly dubbed #sockgate on social media — kicked off during an interview with author Barbara Taylor Bradford, who reckons the secret to a successful marriage is picking up your spouse’s things.
Piers piped up saying that having his wife skivvy his socks off the floor ‘made him happy’.
To which a Susanna said: ‘You know these things on the ends of your arms? They’re really useful for picking things up off the floor.’
But Piers responded: ‘That is why you’re single.’
And when Charlotte joined in on Susanna’s side, he turned the jibe on her too, saying: ‘That is why you’re going to be single.’
Taylor Bradford had suggested that women should ‘mother’ their husbands, but not even motherly Lorraine agreed with that.
When Piers enquired whether, if they were married, she would ‘as an act of love’ pick up his socks, she put her head in her hands at the thought.
‘No, I wouldn’t! You can pick up your own socks,’ she said, before adding the killer line: ‘If we were married, that would be the least of my problems.’
And social media seemed mainly to agree.
‘If I were married to him, I’d use one [sock] to shut him up and the other to cover his head.., just saying,’ wrote one forthright commenter.
