Tantrums? Alexandra Burke is a cha-cha-charmer says Strictly ‘spy’

STRICTLY insiders have jumped to the defence of under-pressure star Alexandra Burke.
The singer has been accused of tactically turning on the waterworks on screen and throwing tantrums when the cameras aren’t rolling.
But the former X Factor champion is described by a source as an absolute cha-cha-charmer behind the scenes of the BBC contest.

‘Alexandra could not be lovelier to work with,’ our informant exclusively told Metro. ‘She is an absolute professional, and is nice to everyone backstage.’
As for claims the 29-year-old had an almighty meltdown last weekend, we’ve been assured she was ‘understandably down’ but did not throw her toys out the pram.
Despite topping the leaderboard and being praised by the judges, Alexandra has fought for survival in the dreaded dance-off two weeks in a row. She isn’t winning the popularity contest with the public, with some viewers reckoning her tear-drenched displays are contrived.

And the Broken Heels singer — whose mum, Soul II Soul’s Melissa Bell, passed away aged 53 before the show’s launch — admits the taunts have taken a toll.
‘I have struggled with some of the public’s reaction,’ she confessed. ‘I started the show completely myself — my joy and my tears were 100 per cent genuine, but I’m now so self- conscious’.
She writes in Radio Times, which is on sale today: ‘I feel I’ve got to lock my emotions away, where before I used to wear my heart on my sleeve.’
Alexandra and her partner Gorka Marquez, 27, will perform a salsa and Viennese waltz when Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC1.
