Tesco trip for Ed’s mum to stock up on son’s album

HIS new album Divide has broken chart records worldwide — but Ed Sheeran’s mum had to buy copies for her pals at Tesco after record chiefs sent just 20 complimentary CDs for family and friends.
The Shape Of You singer has sold more than a million copies of his third album in 16 days but it seems his mother, Imogen, is not enjoying the perks of her son’s success.
Ed, 26, explained: ‘The label gives us 20 free copies, so when people at church ask mum for CDs she’s too embarrassed to say she’s run out.
‘So she goes and buys them from Tesco,’ the star, 26, added.
But while mum and her chums might miss out on musical freebies, Sheeran is making things up to her in other ways — by building a swimming pool at his Suffolk home.
He told Heat magazine: ‘I built myself a pool. But it’s for them, because I’m never there, so they swim in it.’

■ ED Sheeran says his dad John has mastered the art of the showbiz blag.
Rather than pull out the: ‘Don’t you know who I am?’ line, the star’s father pretends to be a top music executive.
‘My dad’s like me and is kind of loud,’ the singer explained.
‘My favourite dad story is from a Brits after-party. He lit up a cigarette at the Warner party and was told, “You can’t smoke in here, sir.” He said, “I am Mr Warner,” and was allowed to smoke.’
